NSW:Fewer pub and club attacks

SYDNEY, Dec 7 AAP - The number of assaults in pubs and clubs in NSW has fallen, in
line with a general decline in crimes of violence, statistics show.

Recorded assaults on licensed premises fell by nine per cent in the 24 months to September
this year, from 6514 to 5928, the Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR) says
in its quarterly report released on Tuesday.

Statewide there's been no rise in any category of crime, the bureau says.

Nine categories have declined, including non-domestic violence (down 2.0 per cent),
robbery without a weapon (down 6.1 per cent) and malicious damage (down 10.2 per cent).

Motor vehicle theft was down 8.0 per cent, stealing from motor vehicles declined by
5.1 per cent and stealing from persons was down by 8.2 per cent.

Break and enter crimes were down 2.4 per cent for dwellings and 14.1 per cent for other premises.

All other crime categories were stable, the bureau says.
