WA: Derby to be placed on Red Alert as Laurence roars by

The West Australian town of Derby is being placed on Red Alert from 9pm (WST) .. as
Tropical Cyclone Laurence continues on its southerly track of coast.

Local residents are being urged by the Fire and Emergency Authorities of Western Australia
to stay indoors and keep vehicles off the roads.

Winds of up to 230 kilometers are expected in the early hours of tomorrow morning ..

and the Great Northern Highway will be closed east of Roebuck Road House and west of Fitzroy
Crossing.

Cyclone Laurence is expected to hit Derby at 5am (WST) in the morning .. although downgraded
by then to Category 2.

Communities in Koolan and Cockatoo islands remain on red alert.
