NSW: Cabbies meet at airport to protest toll, reforms

Taxi services at Sydney Airport were disrupted this morning as cabbies met to protest
against a proposed toll on drivers using airport facilities.

The Transport Workers Union says about 300 taxi drivers at the airport's international
and domestic terminals stopped work for an hour and a half from 6.30 am (AEDT).

Drivers resolved at the meeting to refuse to pay the $A2.50 toll they believe is being
proposed by the Sydney Airport Corporation.

However, corporation spokesman SCOTT SLOAN says although a levy has been discussed,
nothing has been finalised.

The TWU says drivers also resolved to oppose a no-destination booking system proposed
by the NSW government.

The drivers will meet again next month with the possibility of further disruptions
to taxi services if they don't get a result they're satisfied with.
